Born in Shkodër on the 03 November 1891.
Baptised in Shkodër on the 04 November 1891 Confirmed
on the 03 June 1900
from the diocese of Shkodër.
He celebrated one of the
first Holy Mass in Shkodër, Sanctuary Mother of Good Counsel, on the 26
April 1916. He studied in Italy for elementary and middle school, and
later he continued his studies in the Pontifical Seminary of Albania.
He studied theology in
Innsbruck - Austria. He was the secretary of the Archbishop of Shkodër
Mons. Giacomo Serregi. He was the Parish Priest of Shkodër in 1922.
Parish priest of Mal Jushit, in Boge, where he was (1926 – 1934); in
Sheldi (1934 – 1945) where he was arrested and from there he was
accompanied by the guards on foot to the prison in Shkodër on the 04
February 1945. He was sentenced to death without trial. He was shot and
killed in Shkodër in the early morning on the 25 March 1945 on Palm
Sunday.
Other information: He was a
Prolific Author and a very respected priest. He was very talented,
especially while giving Catechism.
He composed Cathechetical-Rhymes
for children to improve their Christian education.
He was a good – hearted
Shepherd and a devoted priest, in the parishes where he worked. on the
16 August 1944, while preaching in Shiroka on the feast of St. Rock,
among other things he said, “In particular I speak to the youth of
Shkodër; that a black cloud, like a dragon is threatening Albania and
when its rain starts then you will understand what it is”. He was
accused of hiding in his house Fr. Lazer Shantoja and Mr. Hasan Isufi,
who were his friends.
After he got the consolation
of receiving the sacraments, before he was shot he raised his hands to
the sky and said: “Oh Lord what more can I do to be an Albanian and a
faithful man?” His last words were: “ I believe in God the Father” -
before he could finish his prayer he was shot and killed.
He was executed together with
Arif Selimin and Ndrek Luken outside the cemetery of Rëmaj in Shkodër.
At the moment on execution
Arif said to him, “Where will you leave me Fr. Andre”? - he answered,
“You will come with me to Jesus Christ!”.
Three hours after the
execution the seminarian Mark Çuni, who would be arrested some months
later, together with some youth, took his body for this was his desire,
and placed a little flag on his Chest and buried him in the Rëmaj
Cemetery in Shkodër.
