The servant of God seminarian Mark Çuni
father Ndoc Frano,
mother Dile Lisna.
Born in Rranxha Bushat on the 30 September 1919.
baptised on the 30 September 1919
confirmed in Rranxa in the year of 1926 from the diocese of Shkodër.
In his 18th year he entered
the seminary. Because he had no father and was the only boy his mother
disagreed with his entry. In the seminary he completed his schooling
until he joined the companions of his own age. He studied his first
classes in his own area, while later in the pontifical seminary of
Albania. He after
visited the third year of theology.
He was arrested and
imprisoned in Shkodwr in December of 1945, and was sentenced to death on
the 22 February 1946. He was shot and killed on the 04 March 1946 on
Monday at 5 am.
Other information: He had
great intelligence and he also published. He was the secret founder of
the association of the Albania union inside the seminary. It was a youth
association of the catholic students whose purpose to contradict
communism, which was fighting the church and wanted to destroy it. When
the communists discovered the organisation, they arrested Fr. Giovanni
Fausti and Fr. Daniel Dajani who were the heads of the seminary.
During the juridical process
he said: “It isn’t true that I have committed a crime: I am against
murder. The created association is an opposition, but within the
democratic front. The meetings the spreading of leaflets and elections
were without the knowledge of Fr. Fausti and Fr. Dajani, who did not
know that this “association” existed”. Among other things, together with
the young people who were included in this association, he accepted that
he had founded groups and that he had distributed leaflets, then he
cried out saying: “If we are guilty, these two (Fr. Fausti and Fr.
Dajani) do not have any shadow of guilt. After being questioned
mercilessly, during which he was beaten with a chair, they struck his
arm and broke it. They then took him out of the question room dragging
him out down the stair – case by the fee, while banging his head at
every stop. His last words were: “I forgive those who have judged and
sentenced me, and those that will carry out my execution. Glory be to
Christ the King! Long live Albania”.
He was shot and killed with
Fr. Giovanni Fausti, Fr. Daniel Dajani and others outside the cemetery
of Remaj in Shkodwr and there they abandoned them.
When his mother received the
news of his execution, she said to those who brought the news to her: “
Now, my Mark has become a priest”.
